Erik Bedard gets the win to improve to 6-6 on the season, Chris Ray records his 17th save in as many chances.
I didn’t get to see any of this game, work was hectic, but it looks like Melvin Mora and Brandon Fahey were the MVP’s. Mora went 2-4 with his 9th homerun and 3 RBIs, while Fahey went 2-5 with a triple and 2 RBIs. Hopefully this is a turning point for Mora who has been lacking power and striking out at a high rate. Most likely his shoulder was/is keeping him from being the player he usually is.
Fahey had a good game today in the 2 hole, but I don’t thinkhe belongs there long term. I think Fahey should be hitting from the 9 hole (8th in the NL), anytime hes in the lineup. Not that he can’t hit, just that he doesn’t have much power to speak of and his OBP isn’t very high right now. He’s in there for his defense, which has been very valuable.
Roster move: Orioles DFA’ed John Halama and purchased the contract of Howie Clark from AAA Ottawa.
It’s about time Halama got the boot. There was no place for him in the bullpen with Chen in there as well. I don’t know why we had 13 pitchers on the roster in the first place. Howie Clark gets his second stint on the ML team in Baltimore, hes not a bad player to have on the bench. I would’ve expected Luis Terrero to get the call, since hes hitting well in AAA, but Clark isn’t too bad of a choice.
Grade: C
This move could have been made days ago and really wasn’t much to think about. But at least they made it and we can now possibly pinch hit/run when we need to.
