The Orioles optioned relief pitcher Chris Britton down to AA Bowie. Coming up from Bowie to replace him is James Hoey. Eddy Rodriguez was DFA’d to make room on the 40 man roster for Hoey.

Its not fair that Chris Britton can be sent to the minors while Russ Ortiz remains on the team, but I can kinda see why they would do it. I don’t really agree with them, but I think they want to give Britton some rest and time to work on some stuff until we bring him back up when rosters are expanded in September. Hoey is an amazing story this year. Starting out at A- Delmarva, then being promoted to A+ Frederick, then being promoted to AA Bowie and dominating all the way. He led the minor leagues in saves. (Combining saves at all levels.) Hes a hard throwing right hander with a nice slider. He should be a name you’ll remember. Rodriguez being DFA’d doesn’t make sense…just release Russ Ortiz for goodness sake.
