O’s Stumble Against Twins, 8-5

Erik Bedard falls to 15-10 on the season.

Bedard pitched as bad as I can remember since early June, but it wasn’t all his fault. The defense was shoddy behind him and 3 of the 6 runs he gave up were unearned. He only managed 4 and 2/3rd innings, giving up those 6 runs on 12 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Russ Ortiz and LaTroy Hawkins pitched through the 7th without allowing a run. Todd Williams pitched the 8th, allowing a run on 3 hits and a walk. Rodrigo Lopez and Bruce Chen formed a tandem for the 9th, letting in the last run of the game.

The hitting wasn’t too bad, 5 runs on 12 hits, but it wasn’t enough. Brian Roberts had 2 hits including a double. Nick Markakis had a couple of hits. So did Chris Gomez to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. Miguel Tejada hit a double. Corey Patterson had 3 hits including a triple. He also stole his 44th base of the season. Kevin Millar hit a double and Jay Gibbons had the other hit.

Markakis watch: 2-5 (.298)

Adam Loewen (6-5, 5.35) will pitch the final home game of the season for the O’s. Matt Garza (2-5, 5.40) pitches for the Twins. Go O’s.
