Izturis Returns; Hernandez Back Down

The Orioles have activated SS Cesar Izturis from the 15 day DL and optioned RHP David Hernandez to AA Bowie.

Grade: B

Sending Hernandez down was the right move. He won’t be needed for his next start until after the all-star break so this allows us to have a deep bench awhile. This gives us more time to make a decision on which position player to move from the roster before we have to bring Hernandez back up. I can see us trading one of Osacar Salazar/Felix Pie/Aubrey Huff in the near future. Having Izturis back should be a nice boost for the team. Robert Andino has filled in admirably while Izturis was out, but Cesar will be an improvement in all areas. Andino should see more frequent starts than before Izturis’ injury though.
