1B Joe Mahoney – 2-5, R (.248 AVG)

Short A Aberdeen 3, Hudson Valley 7
RHP Sebastion Vader – 4 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, L (0-1) (6.75 ERA) – The Ironbirds kicked off their season with Vader as the opening day starter. The 20 year old was impressive in the GCL last year (2.45 ERA over 47.2 innings, 44 strikeouts) so hopefully he can rebound from this poor start and continue his progress.
LF Will Howard – 2-5 (.400 AVG)
2B Jerome Pena – 2-4, R, BB, triple (1) (.500 AVG)
DH Joe Velleggia – 1-3, R, BB, double (1) (.333 AVG)
3B Torsten Boss – 1-3, BB, SB (1) (.333 AVG) – Boss was the Orioles 8th round pick this year out of Michigan State. He was drafted as an outfielder but played third last night. Along with Boss you can expect to see new names in the Aberdeen lineup/pitching staff as they sign. The deadline to sign players from this years draft is July 13th.
GCL Orioles 5, Twins 3
RHP Matt Lindstrom – IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, K (0.00 ERA) – Lindstrom started his rehab assignment from a finger issue. He’ll make another appearance with the GCL team and one with AA Bowie this week before being re-evaluated.
LHP Bennett Parry – 4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, BB, 8 K (4.15 ERA)
CF Gregory Lorenzo – 2-3, 2 R, RBI, HBP, double (1), triple (1) (.667 AVG)
2B Anthony Caronia – 2-4, RBI (.500 AVG)
SS Adrian Marin – 1-4, R, RBI (.250 AVG) – The Orioles 3rd round pick in the 2012 draft had the game winning RBI to go along with the first hit of his professional career.
DH Michael Ohlman – 2-4, RBI, double (1) (.500 AVG) – Ohlman is coming back from a scary car accident during spring training.
1B Nikolas Balog – 1-3, R, RBI, double (.333 AVG)
3B Hector Veloz – 1-4 (.250 AVG) – The 18 year old Veloz is someone to keep an eye on. He was Andy MacPhail’s lone big international signing (other than Koji Uehara) and showed very good plate discipline in the DSL last year. He has alot of potential but a long way to go to live up to it.
